Dochula Pass, situated on the road from Thimphu to Punakha in Bhutan, is a breathtaking mountain pass that provides visitors with an awe-inspiring panorama of the majestic Himalayan range. The pass is located at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) and is renowned for offering some of the most captivating views of snow-capped peaks, including on clear days the distant peaks of Bhutan’s northern border with Tibet.
One of the distinctive features of Dochula Pass is the presence of 108 chortens, also known as stupas or memorial shrines. These chortens were built to honor the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in a conflict with Indian insurgents in 2003.
